Conquest of the Planet of the Apes Part I

Marvel UK - Planet of the Apes issue #63 (Conquest of the Planet of the Apes Part I)

This issue was actually a real treat for me, as being a huge fan of Conquest this allowed me to love it even more. The beginning is by far the best sequence and it is a shame that it was cut from the final film, but other then that part it is pretty much a word for word translation of the movie up to the part where they go to the Memorial for Rover and Tabby.

Moench's writing ability is not full center in this issue as it is a film adaptation, and Alfredo Allala's artwork is beautiful and that is putting it lightly, his line work and pacing do so much for the issue that color is not even missed, a wonderful piece of Planet of the Apes for sure.

If you have not had the privilege of reading this story I assure you as a Apes fan you are truly missing out. If you are like me and thought that the Marvel UK issues are the only way to enjoy these, here is a nice bit of surprise. The Marvel UK issues were actually just reprints of the Planet of the Apes Magazine's over here in the states, so do yourself a favor and snatch these while you can as the prices are starting to jump up again.

Artwork - 5/5
The art is truly a masterpiece to the point of color would take away from it.

Writing - 4/5
This is in no way a knock on Moench's ability to write but he wasn't able to shine with this film adaptation

I would recommend this to the point of almost giving the issue away to someone who hasn't been able to experience this series.
